God has more in store for you than you think! I want to encourage you to look up, past the place where you are in life, and get over into God's way of thinking. Look through the eyes of faith and expect something more than you can see right now!
That's what God told Abram to do in Genesis 13. You know the story - Abram and his nephew Lot were going to split up and look for different places to raise their herds, because the land where they were couldn't support both of them.
Lot took the best land on the plain of Jordan, which left Abram with the land in Canaan. But God told Abram, Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are - northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever (vv.14, 15).
I believe God always has more in store for us than we can see right now - and it's usually a blessing to more than just us. Think about it. In this situation, Abram wanted enough land for his herds - but God wanted to give him a whole nation for his descendants!
Then in the very next verse, God said, And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth. Again we see God thinking much bigger...Abram wanted an heir, but God wanted to give him more descendants than the sand or the stars!
What does all of this mean to you and me? God is telling us to lift up our eyes from the place where we are today and expect something more. To think bigger. To look past our current situation or what we have now right now, and stop thinking that we've arrived, or we're stuck, or this is all we'll ever have.
God is trying to get more to you and through you. It's something supernatural. Bigger than you can imagine, and something that will affect the lives of others in a positive way as well. Don't have a narrow vision or settle for less than God's amazing plan. Don't look down, look UP!
Look past the place where you are right now - past the place of hardship, heartbreak, struggle, or even complacency - and get a view of the bigger picture that God has in mind. Your present is not your future.
God wants to do great things to and through you. But it's up to you to believe that, and to take hold of those things with your faith.
Small thinking and small expectations can limit what God has planned for you. You're going to have to expand your thinking, and then you're going to have to hold fast to your faith to get there.
And the only way to do that is with God's Word. The way to see yourself expanding from your current situation is through faith (believing something you can't see yet), and faith comes from the Word (Romans 10:17). Then you must keep your faith strong so that you can keep believing and not stop, no matter how the storms of life may rage.
It seems like I've been telling a lot of people lately that Christianity isn't for wimps. You don't get to see miracles or experience amazing testimonies by feeling sorry for yourself or hoping someone will help you. In this day and age, those who overcome are those who dig in to God's Word...those who determine to hold fast to their faith and believe God no matter what.
So dig in today! God has more in store than you know. Look up and expect more!
