In the Old Testament, the Spirit of God lived in a box (the ark of the covenant).  But God said, 'That's not good enough, I have to be closer to my people.'  So in His new covenant, He put His Spirit IN US! — Karen Jensen

Lots of people have asked me how Bob & I met, so here’s the story:

In June 2012 I was writing Why God Why? and I “just happened” to be writing about the grief process – how there are stages to go through if you’ve suffered loss, but how no one else can dictate how fast or slow, easy or hard, you go through each stage....

That’s what I was focusing on when I got a phone call in my office from a gentleman named Bob who had lost his wife to cancer about six months before. He had seen my picture in the Word of Faith magazine because I had recently taught a workshop at the Rhema Single’s Conference called “On the Death of a Spouse” and he thought maybe this was someone who could help him.

So he called Rhema to see if they knew who I was, and they transferred him to my office.

He wanted some advice, because a relative had recently told him, “It’s high time you were over your wife’s death – take down the pictures, get rid of her clothes, move on.”

Of course I told him that, as well meaning as this relative was, they didn’t get to decide for him. The process of grief is different for each person, and for each loss.

Well, because his story totally applied to what I was writing about, I ended up putting him in my book – you can read it on page 78 :-) -- never guessing how this story would end up!

Bob and I had a good conversation that first day – for me, it was just like many calls I take every day. And I told him what I tell most others: “Feel free to call again if I can be of further help or you just need to talk.” So he called every few months, just to let me know how he was doing.

By summer of 2013 a year later, by pressing into God and patiently processing, Bob had really made it through the valley of grief. He was excited about life again, and his faith even encouraged me! Just about that time, my book came out, and he bought one. After reading my whole story, he decided that I was someone he wanted to get to know better.

And the rest, as they say, is history! Pretty soon we were talking every day, then we visited each other, and we prayed a lot! By the time the holiday season rolled around, we knew we would get married. And we did! On March 11, 2014 in a small ceremony at Living Word Christian Church (Pastored by Mac & Lynn Hammond) in Brooklyn Park, MN where Bob has been a member for 25 years.

How We Met

It’s an exciting new chapter in our lives, with lots of changes, but one we know the Lord is orchestrating – He is so faithful! And we are so happy.

I’ll have more opportunities now to travel and minister, and also have more time to write (if you’re a leader in your church, feel free to contact me about coming to minister in your neck of the woods!).

Thank you for your prayers and loving support as Bob & I walk out this next adventure…I treasure your partnership, and you have a part in everything we do for the kingdom of God!
